Hi, I’m Mrs. Dean. I’m a 12th year teacher starting a new position. I will be teaching 6-8th graders as a title 1 reading teacher. Most of my students are coming to me with a 1st-2nd grade reading level. My goal is for all my students to have their basic needs met so they have the ability to learn to their best ability. I have a care closet in my classroom with everything from toothbrushes to beanies/gloves. My most requested items are snacks, chapstick, deodorant, and socks. I have found that when kids feel cared about, they are more willing to learn from you. I became a teacher after a horrible school experience where I floundered in the public education system. I wanted to become the teacher I needed. So I did! My school site is a special place that believes in supporting the whole student. We have a high trauma, low income population. We have 4 outside counselors on site to support our students mental health needs. My classroom was is all about the students. Thank you for supporting us!
