Hello, my name is SarahAnn MacDonald, and I teach juniors Algebra 2 and seniors
AP Calculus in a small, rural town in Tennessee. In my school, I am known for
my student rewards and motivators. My school is a Title I school district with
many students living below the poverty line and eating free/reduced lunch. I
use a ticket system in my classroom. Students can earn tickets by answering
questions, helping their peers, asking questions, or doing a classroom job.
Students can "cash" in their tickets for many items, including candy, chips,
cookies, ramen noodles, juice, fruit snacks, slim jims, stickers, fidgets, or
class "passes" (i.e., get out of homework, sneak peek at a test, move seats for
the day). 95% of my students use their tickets on snack items, mainly because
they can't afford them at home. I fund all of this out of my own pocket, and
you will notice most of the items on my wishlist are items for students to
purchase with their tickets. My students and I would greatly appreciate any
help.
